You can\u2019t\n even hop in your car and nip down to the local shops without a host of \nsecurity and staff. A smooth ride is also a consideration for \ntop-ranking politicians, meaning their motorcades are often impressive, \nboth in appearance and cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We decided to have at look at the different cars leaders around the \nworld rely on for their road travel, and how much the bills for their \nmotorcades come in at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read below to find the details of motorcades of six major world leaders, ranked by their cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a312,630,250 &#8211; Donald Trump, USA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/leasecar.uk\/images\/main\/news\/2\/10\/21\/usa.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s motorcade leads the way in terms of cost, and when you see \nwhat is included in his fleet of vehicles, it is easy to understand why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Beast<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s personal car is a custom build \u2013 based on a Cadillac and is \nsometimes known as Cadillac One. The vehicle is equipped with military \ngrade bullet proof glass, a separate oxygen supply in case of chemical \nattack and two pints of the president\u2019s blood type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a311,548,125 (according to General Motors paperwork)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">23 Chevrolet Suburbans<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s car is accompanied by 23 other vehicles on an average trip, \nusually Chevrolet Suburbans. These vehicles carry a range of equipment \nand personnel including staff, security, advisors and medical \nprofessionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a3971,221 (\u00a342,227 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8 BMW 2016 R 1200 RT-P Motorcycles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The motorcycles in Trump\u2019s motorcade precede and follow the \npresident\u2019s fleet of cars. They help to open and close routes through \ntraffic to ensure his safety. Motorcycles take a similar role in all \nworld leaders\u2019 motorcades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost<\/strong>: \u00a3110,904 (\u00a313,863 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming in at a total of \u00a312,630,250, Trump\u2019s motorcade is the most \nexpensive in our list. The Beast also ranks top of any vehicle on our \nlist for carbon dioxide emissions. The car produces 1196g of CO2 for \nevery kilometre travelled. In comparison, the average new car produces \njust <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lightfoot.co.uk\/news\/2017\/10\/04\/how-much-co2-does-a-car-emit-per-year\/\">120.1g of CO2<\/a> over the same distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a39,655,518 \u2013 Vladimir Putin, Russia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/leasecar.uk\/images\/main\/news\/2\/10\/21\/russia.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The President of Russia ranks as a relatively close second to Trump\u2019s\n motorcade cost, although far fewer vehicles accompany Vladimir Putin on\n the road. His motorcade is made up of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Aurus Senate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Trump, Putin travels in a custom-built car. The Aurus Senate was\n designed specifically for the president and is the result of joint \neffort from NAMI and Porsche engineers. The vehicle weighs in at six \ntonnes and is a mammoth 23 feet long. Equipped with extensive security \nfeatures, which are kept under wraps by the president\u2019s security detail,\n the Senate is powered by a 4.4l V8 engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a39,150,780<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 Mercedes G Class<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Putin transports far less of his staff with him on the road \nthan Trump, they definitely travel in style. The Mercedes G Class is a \nluxury SUV, capable of handling almost any terrain, and has a top speed \nof 220km\/h (137mph).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a3421,560 (\u00a3140,520 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6 BMW 2016 R 1200 RT-P Motorcycles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Putin details six police riders to accompany his motorcade to clear roads and monitor crowds whilst he is on the move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a383,178 (\u00a313,863 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at the \u00a39,655,518 Putin\u2019s modestly sized motorcade already \ncosts, it may explain why his entourage is much smaller than the US \npresident\u2019s. Again, environmental impact hasn\u2019t been high up on the list\n of considerations by those putting together this fleet of vehicles. \nWith its huge engine and substantial bulk the CO2 emissions of the Aurus\n Senate are likely to be up there with Trump\u2019s Beast, and the Mercedes G\n Class produces 261g of CO2 per km, well above the 176g of the Chevrolet\n Suburban used by Trump\u2019s entourage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a33,869,315 \u2013 Xi Jinping, China<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/leasecar.uk\/images\/main\/news\/2\/10\/21\/china.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a steep jump between the price of Putin\u2019s motorcade and that\n belonging to the President of China. The difference in costs is largely\n down to the fact that Jinping does not have a custom-built car, as \nTrump and Putin do. Jinping\u2019s motorcade is still significantly more \nexpensive than other leaders on this list, however, as the same standard\n of luxury he travels in, is also provided for those who travel with \nhim:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5 Hongqi L5<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the car of choice for the President of China, and his \nentourage. The L5 is the height of Chinese luxury motoring in the same \nway the Rolls Royce Phantom \u2013 Queen Elizabeth\u2019s car \u2013 is in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a33,800,000 (\u00a3760,000 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5 Haojue GW250J Motorcycles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These motorcycles are the Chinese equivalent of the BMW police bikes \nused in other countries. We couldn\u2019t find a cost for this vehicle, so we\n have estimated it based on the BMW prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a369,315 (\u00a313,863 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Xi Jinping differs from other world leaders in this list in that his \nvehicles are only used on the road in china. When Jinping visits other \ncountries he uses transport provided by their governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a3572,007 &#8211; Theresa May, UK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/leasecar.uk\/images\/main\/news\/2\/10\/21\/uk.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The British Prime Minster is the first leader on this list to bring \ntheir car fleet in under \u00a31 million. Although still luxury, the PM\u2019s \nvehicles are less customised that Putin\u2019s and Trump\u2019s, and lack the \nostentation of Jinping:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jaguar XJ Sentinel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>May rides in a Jaguar XJ Sentinel, a model of the traditional XJ, but\n equipped with additional security features including Kevlar backing and\n blast protection. Despite the increased weight of this XJ model it can \nstill reach top speeds of 197km\/h, which is well above those achieved by\n the heavier cars of Trump and Putin. The US President\u2019s car is thought \nto max out at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leftlanenews.com\/the-beast-10-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-presidents-limo-80466.html\">96km\/h<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a3300,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 Range Rover sports<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Jag XJ is followed by three Range Rover Sports in Theresa May\u2019s \nmotorcade. These cars carry security, staff and other key members of the\n Prime Minister\u2019s entourage. The Range Rover is a spacious luxury \nvehicle, with a name that still conjures images of British engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a3216,555 (\u00a372,185 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4 BMW 2016 R 1200 RT-P Motorcycles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Like most other world leaders, May\u2019s motorcade is accompanied by \npolice officers on BMW bikes to clear routes ahead of her arrival in an \narea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a355,452 (\u00a313,863 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is interesting to note that the cars used in May\u2019s motorcade are \nfrom big names of British motoring. Although much production for both \nJaguar and Range Rover now happens overseas, the brands still have close\n links with their country of origin, which is likely to have influenced \nthe government\u2019s choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a3290,140 &#8211; Angela Merkel, Germany<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/leasecar.uk\/images\/main\/news\/2\/10\/21\/germany.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Angela Merkel\u2019s motorcade is almost half the cost of Theresa May\u2019s \nyet still retains cars that ooze class. The cars that feature in this \nmotorcade exemplify some of the best of German engineering, with the \nChancellor being careful to include vehicles from all the top names of \nher country\u2019s thriving motoring industry:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Audi R8<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Merkel\u2019s personal vehicle is notably more modest than the others in \nthis list. Although the fashionable coupe is equipped with extra \nsecurity features such as bullet proof glass, these are virtually \nundetectable from the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a3112,520<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BMW 5 Series<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A range of vehicles are used to accompany Angela Merkel\u2019s motorcade, \nand one which features is the BMW 5 series. Another representative of \nGermany\u2019s motoring industry, the 5 series is again notably less \nextravagant than a lot of cars on this list, but still offers a \nluxurious ride to those travelling with the Chancellor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a335,285<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 Merecedes V Class<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The V Class is used to transport up to seven people at a time, the perfect vehicle for Merkel\u2019s entourage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a3142,335 (\u00a347,445 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as coming in as one of the cheapest motorcades, the vehicles \nof Angela Merkel\u2019s fleet also have some of the best records for carbon \nemissions. The BMW 5 Series is not only one of the cheapest cars to \nfeature in our list, it produces the lowest amount of CO2 at just 119g \nper km, one tenth of that produced by Donald Trump\u2019s Beast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a3200,062 \u2013 Justin Trudeau, Canada<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/leasecar.uk\/images\/main\/news\/2\/10\/21\/canada.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming in with the smallest price tag is Canada\u2019s Premier, Justin \nTrudeau. Trudeau is modest both with his car type and the number of \nvehicles that travel with him, resulting in a significant smaller cost \nfor his road transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4 Chevrolet Suburbans<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Xi Jinping, Trudeau travels in the same type of car as features \nin most of his motorcade. In Trudeau\u2019s case the vehicle chosen is less \nflash than the Hongqi L5. The Canadian Prime Minster travels in a \nChevrolet Suburban SUV. This is the same car that accompanies Trump\u2019s \nBeast on the road. Whilst Trump has 23 of the vehicle travel with him, \nTrudeau has limited his motorcade to just four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a3168,908 (\u00a342,227 per vehicle)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chrysler 300<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chrysler 300 is the flagship car in Trudeau\u2019s motorcade and usually precedes the Prime Minister\u2019s cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cost: <\/strong>\u00a331,154<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justin Trudeau\u2019s cars certainly give off less CO2 than the big \nspenders on this list \u2013 Trump and Putin \u2013 but the vehicles he has chosen\n for road transport have higher emissions than average, with the \nChevrolet Suburban producing 176g of CO2 per km, and the Chrysler \npumping out 191g for the same distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How We Did It<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step in our process was to put together lists of vehicles \nused by each world leader we studied. We did this through existing data \non their motorcades, and by verifying this against images and video \ncontent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We then went on to research the price of these cars, as correct on 28<sup>th<\/sup> and 29<sup>th<\/sup>\n June 2018. As we did not have exact data of extra features added onto \nthe cars, we judged them all on their basic model price, as stated on \nthe manufacturer\u2019s website. Where possible, we used prices of the cars \nin the UK, but in instances where this was not available, such as with \nthe Chevrolet Suburban, a price in US dollars was converted to pound \nsterling using the exchange rate at 4pm on 28<sup>th<\/sup> June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carbon emission data was pooled from car reviews and manufacturer \nspecifications, before it was simplified to provide the amount of CO2 \nproduced per km.
