Frequent drivers have been advised on the best car accessories to buy to make journeys even more comfortable and convenient.

Motoring experts from LeaseCar.uk have scoured the internet to find six add-ons that can make driving with pets, kids or simply for long periods of time more comfortable.

Unlike common air fresheners and fluffy steering wheel covers, some vehicle accessories have been designed with practicality and function as the priority.

These products are cheap but can make driving for long periods of time much more cheerful, whilst also making the most of limited space inside cars and even vans.

If you do a lot of driving, particularly on toll roads or for long distances, a visor organiser can help keep all of your important cards and documents in one place, whilst headrest hangers can be attached to the metal extendable parts of front seat headrests, to hang bags or toys and save space in the back seat footwells.

A spokesperson for LeaseCar.uk said: “For a lot of people, one of the best bits about getting a new car is buying seat covers and air fresheners to make your vehicle look and smell nice, but some accessories can completely change how you use the space too.

“Others are essential for safety – for example, Rule 57 of the Highway Code states that dogs and other animals must be suitably restrained while you’re driving, so pet safety belts are a must.

  1. Boot organiser

If you find that the boot of your car often gets cluttered and messy, a boot storage organiser can help you keep everything in order. Some varieties even include cool bags which are perfect for picnics and days out. You can buy them either to place on the floor of the boot, or to hang on the backs of the rear seats, into the boot space.

  • Dog safety belt

Rule 57 of the Highway Code states that dogs and other animals must be suitably restrained while you’re driving, so pet safety belts are a must. They clip into the car seat buckle and attach to collars and harnesses to keep pets – and passengers – safe.

  • Car rubbish bin

Most people are guilty of snacking in the car and leaving wrappers and empty water bottles to build up in the footwell, but car rubbish bins are a cheap and convenient solution. They’re often foldable, waterproof, and can be hung on the front or back of car chairs. Just remove and empty every few days.

  • Headrest hangers

These handy contraptions can be attached to the metal extendable parts of front seat headrests, to hang bags or toys and save space in the back seat footwells.

  • Visor organiser

If you do a lot of driving, particularly on tolls or for long distances, a visor organiser can help keep all of your important cards and documents in one place. This could prevent you fumbling around for payment methods or parking tickets on your journey. Just remember to remove the organiser from the visor whenever you leave the vehicle.

  • Sauce holder

Frequent drive-thru customers will know how difficult it can be to balance the little sauce tubs on the dashboard or your knee in a cramped car, and spillages often take place. Luckily, you can buy sauce holders that clip onto the air vents of your car, allowing you to dip risk free.
