Diesel cars can still out-perform both petrol and some hybrid vehicles when it comes to fuel economy. They also produce more torque than their petrol or hybrid equivalents so are a popular choice for motorists who carry heavy loads or need to tow

In order to significantly reduce harmful emissions, diesel-fuelled cars are now manufactured using two systems: Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) and AdBlue Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
Engines with Diesel Particulate Filters capture soot particles produced during combustion. AdBlue Diesel Filters turn harmful nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen.
The majority of manufacturers are now incorporating these new technologies to achieve Euro 6 regulations. These new regulations are mandatory to meet London's Ultra Low Emission Zone plans for 2020 and you can expect other major UK cities to follow suit. Motorists are, rightly-so, increasingly concerned with their impact on our environment so these changes are good news.
However, it's important to be aware of the implications these new engine types have. Both Diesel Particulate Filters and AdBlue Diesel Exhaust Fluid systems have particular maintenance needs.
The Diesel Particulate Filters work best when the car is driven for at least 20 minutes at 50mph or above. AdBlue Diesel Exhaust Fluid needs regular top-ups. Depending on your driving style, this may be an extra requirement outside of the top-up provided during the vehicle's service. Often both DPF and AdBlue systems are used in modern engines, so it's important to assess your driving style and needs when considering leasing a diesel engine car.
LeaseCar experts are fully up-to-date on these new, low-environmental impact engine types and are happy to advise you if leasing a new diesel car is the best option for you moving forward into the future. We can discuss your driving style, the typical workload of your car and recommend the best engine type to maximise your budget whilst ensuring performance is not compromised in any way.
