From quote to keys: how the LeaseCar leasing process works
Car leasing is simpler than most people expect, but it helps to know what is coming before you start. From the moment you find a deal you like through to a new car arriving on your driveway, there are six clear stages. Here is exactly what to expect at each one.
Key facts
LeaseCar is a credit broker authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority: we arrange finance through a panel of lenders to get you the best deal
The full process from application to delivery typically takes 3 to 4 weeks if in stock
Free mainland UK delivery is included on every lease: the car comes to you
Step 1: choose your car and configure your deal
Choosing your vehicle
Browse by body type: hatchbacks, SUVs, saloons, city cars, estates, MPVs and vans are all available through LeaseCar
Hatchbacks | SUVs | City cars | Saloons | Vans
Narrow by fuel type, budget or brand: LeaseCar's filters make it straightforward to find the right match
Configuring your contract
Contract length: typically 24, 36 or 48 months — shorter contracts offer more flexibility; longer ones often reduce monthly payments
Annual mileage: set this accurately based on your real driving — excess mileage is charged at contract end, typically 10 to 30p per mile over the limit
Initial rental: an upfront payment equivalent to 1 to 12 monthly payments made before delivery — not a refundable deposit; a higher initial payment reduces your ongoing monthly cost
Maintenance: an optional add-on covering servicing, tyres and routine maintenance within the fixed monthly payment
Step 2: get your quote
The online system walks you through the quote process
The quote sets out the monthly payment, initial rental, contract length, mileage allowance and any maintenance element
Quotes are free and there is no obligation to proceed. One of our dedicated team will call you to discuss your lease options and help you move forward.
If you want to talk through options, or need help with the quote process, the team is available Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 5:30pm on 0344 745 1818
Review the quote carefully: the terms set out here become the basis of your finance agreement
Step 3: submit your application and documents
When you are ready to proceed, you submit a finance application alongside supporting documents.
What you will need
Proof of identity
Bank account details
Further information you may be asked for
Proof of address
Employment or income details
When payment is made
No payment is taken at the finance application stage
In most cases the initial rental is collected after delivery by direct debit
Monthly direct debit payments begin after the vehicle has been delivered and registered to you

Step 4: credit check and finance approva
LeaseCar submits your application to the most suitable lender from its panel of lenders
A hard credit search is conducted: this is standard for any vehicle finance and leaves a mark on your credit file visible to other lenders
The lender assesses your application based on credit history, income, existing financial commitments and affordability
If approved, your account manager will contact you to finalise and place your order with the supplier, and take your vehicle sourcing fee by credit or debit card
Once your order is accepted, the finance documents are sent out to you
If your application is not approved, the LeaseCar team can advise on next steps or discuss alternative options
Step 5: your vehicle is ordered
In-stock vehicles: already registered and ready for delivery; typically delivery takes 3 to 4 weeks.
Factory-order vehicles: built to your specification; typically delivery takes 6 to 14 weeks from order to delivery depending on the manufacturer
LeaseCar keeps you updated throughout and confirms the expected delivery date as soon as it is available
Step 6: delivery day
Free mainland UK delivery is included: the vehicle comes to your home
You inspect the car and sign an acceptance note confirming it has arrived in the agreed condition
Keys are handed over once the acceptance note is signed
Road tax is included: the car is taxed and ready to drive straight away
Insurance is your responsibility and there must be comprehensive cover in place before delivery
